About the Department

Department of Computer Technology was established in 1986. It offers a four year B. Tech. programme in Computer Technology with an annual intake of 120 students. Over the period of thirty seven years the department has evolved as a center of excellence and known for its unique academic practices. National Board of Accreditation New Delhi has accredited the department twice to acknowledge the standard the department has achieved. The department was at the forefront with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University to introduce new branch of Information Technology in 1999. Key strength of the department lies in its devoted staff members up-to-date infrastructure and strong will to build good industry-institute interaction. The department is keen enough to provide additional learning resources such as NPTEL-SWAYAM application an initiatives of IITs and IISc. Special emphasis on skill development has improved the employability of the students. B. Tech in Computer Technology

Computer is now no more a buzzword; rather it has become a word which is at everyones tip of tongue. Since last decade computers are being used extensively on every walk of life. Rapidly evolved technology and versatile use of computers have made computers a utility electronic gadget for a common person. Because of the widespread and diversified application of computers the field has become a fascinating field and so is one of the highly sought disciplines of engineering among engineering aspirants. Computer Technology encompasses variety of topics like analysis of algorithms programming languages program design software development and hardware design. This branch is a synonym of Computer Engineering Computer Science Computer Science and Engineering. Aspirants of this branch can develop their carrier as a Software Developer System Designer System Analyst Hardware and Networking Engineers Database Administrator Information Technology consultant and Information Security Analyst. Students graduating from this field are in high demand and have a long and rewarding carrier. Graduates of this field are the potential employees of Google Amazon Yahoo Hewlett- Packard IBM Toshiba Dell Inc TCS WIPROW INFOSYS etc. Being the young branch of engineering there is huge demand for the students who wish to make their carrier in research and development.

B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning)

The department of Computer Technology has started a new B. Tech. program in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) from the academic year 2025 (intake of 60 seats) with intent to provide a good opportunity to the aspirants to take on the carrier in the field of Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning. In todays context Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are the rapidly advancing technologies that are responsible for changing every aspect of daily life. These fields are considered the most significant areas in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. This area of technology offers tremendous opportunities to the aspirants to test the limits of their talent and to develop new algorithms/ solutions that can bring in new transformation in the field. Being the most evolving field job prospects in the area are on the rise and very lucrative. Companies like Google Amazon Apple Hewlett- Packard IBM Toshiba Dell Inc TCS WIPROW INFOSYS have ample opening for the graduates of AI and ML.

Dedicated departmental library has around 683 titles from different orientations of Computer Technology.

  • Students are encouraged to take up industrial and research-oriented projects in various area of expertise in association with research organization and reputed industries.
  • IIT Bombay which coordinates the AAKASH project of MHRD India to promote mobile technology has authorized the department as one of the nodal center.

Funded Projects

  • Department has received grant of Rs. Six lacks from AICTE New Delhi for modernization of Computer Networks and Soft Computing laboratories.
  • IIT Bombay has given grant of Rs. One lack to the department to develop the necessary infrastructure required for AAKASH project.

Infrastructure

  • The department has state-of-the-art computer centers with modern hardware and software infrastructure. Hardware infrastructure includes around one hundred fifty desktop computers with latest configuration and high-end servers
  • Access to internet through 200 Mbps dedicated leased line through wired and Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Various operating systems and licensed software such as WINDOWS IBM AIX ORACLE IBM DB2 .NET RATIONAL ROSE JAVA and Microsoft Visual Studio with other necessary software are available for curriculum based practical and for project work.

Learning Beyond Curriculum

  • To keep the students in pace with the rapidly developing technology department follows the practice of conducting need-based courses/workshops on various emerging technologies such as JAVA ANDRIOD HADOOP BIGDATA LINUX Salesforce etc.
  • Department has GATE club to provide extra guidance for preparation of GATE. GATE results have been promising since year 2011; twenty-two students have scored more than 85 percentile. Former members of GATE club Mr. Birendra Yadav had 184th All India rank with 99.91 percentile Mr. Manas Thakur secured 708th All India rank with 99.61 percentile and Mr. Bupender secured 99.20 percentile.
  • Students chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) gives a platform to students to showcase and enhance technical skills.
  • ACME the students forum is coined to focus specifically on grooming up the soft skills of the budding engineers. This forum conducts many technical events such as paper presentation technical quizzes workshops and many other technical activities to serve the intended purpose of the forum.
