Information Department

The Institute started a 4-year Information Technology B.E., in the year 1999 with an annual intake of 60 affiliated under RTM, Nagpur University (M.S) & from the session 2020-2021, the B. Tech course has been introduced by University with change in scheme and syllabus. A team of qualified and experienced teachers and trained technical & supporting staff added to the strength to the department. The faculty of the department is well versed in latest Technologies, good skills on hands on programming required by the software companies & industries. They are enriched with research on recent trends like Pattern recognition, Cluster & Grid Computing, Cloud Computing, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep learning etc. The department has been sponsoring the faculty members to pursue higher studies to reputed institute. They are encouraged in participation to FDPs, STTP's, NPTEL courses, workshops. Also, conduct the workshops, Guest/ Expert Lectures on current technologies such as Machine Learning, Python, Deep Learning, Android, Data Bases etc. to enhance the knowledge of the faculty and student. The department has provided a separate counseling class for the students to share and discuss their academic and non-academic issues with their respective counselors. The department students have made their presence felt in the University examination results by securing highest university ranks among the other engineering/technical institutes/colleges. The faculty members are facilitated with a departmental Library .The students of the department showcase their skills through INFOQUEST - the department Forum which provides them a platform to excel in areas develop personality skills to face the world other than academics to make stand for the fierce competition. The activities were planned and conducted through forum to sharpen their technical knowledge, inter-personal skills and aptitude through programming contests, seminars, quizzes, mock-interviews, etc. Our alumni are working with software companies such as Infosys, IBM, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Persistent Systems Pvt. Ltd., L&T, Zensar, Smart Data, Capgemini, PCS, Syntel, etc. Alumni always have been a source of inspiration and guidance for the pursuing undergraduates. The department vision is to center of excellence in the field of Information Technology (IT) to produce technology component, knowledgeable disciplined and socially responsible software engineers to contribute for the nation.

B.Tech in Information Technology

The department has been sponsoring the faculty members to pursue higher studies to IITs and NITs and other reputed institutes. The faculty members are encouraged to participate and attend the FDPs, STTP's, workshops on the research areas such as Advanced Web Mining, Cloud Computing, Grid Computing, Parallel Computing, Big data, Wireless Sensor Network, Pattern recognition etc.

Apart from the curriculum, the department conducts workshops on current technologies Machine Learning, Python, Deep Learning, Android, .Net Technology etc. during every academic year for the faculty and student development. Also, the Department has been conducting workshops with hands on practical on "Big Data Analytics". Prominently among these workshops, the department has conducted a Workshop on "Design of Algorithms" in coordination with IIT, Kharagpur..

The faculty members are facilitated with a departmental Library having VCD collection of around 179+ VCDs by eminent IIT professors on various subjects like JAVA, .net, C++, Database Management Systems, Data Structures, Data Mining etc. The students of the department showcase their skills through INFOQUEST - the Information Technology Forum, which provides a platform to excel in areas other than academics and prepare them for the fierce competition. The activities are planned and executed for the upcoming technocrats to sharpen their technical knowledge, inter-personal skills and aptitude through programming contests, seminars, quizzes, mock-interviews, etc.

Departmental Library

• Dedicated departmental library has 683 titles from different orientations of Computer Technology and Information Technology and 186 volumes of video CDs of professors from IITs on subjects of computing.
• To upgrade the programming skills in C/C++, JAVA of the students, web based online programming tools by M/s Code Tantra, Hyderabad is available.
• NPTEL learning material consisting of video lectures of the eminent professors is available through LOCAL GURU Software and National Digital Library from personal digital devices.

Prominent features of the department:

• The department hosts 3 well equipped computer centres with latest configuration desktops and two microprocessor labs equipped with digital and analog equipments. There are total 172 desktops with internet facility and a dedicated lease line with bandwidth of 100 Mbps which is institute- wide
• Computer centres have two servers and uses software of industry standards like Oracle, Rational Rose, Matlab, Java, C++,Unity, Weka, OLAP.
• Students are facilitated with Code Tantra, an automated software to learn online Java programming.
• Department has been practicing mock, GATE and Aptitude tests to encourage students to appear in GATE, CAT, GRE and other competitive examinations.
• Department is conducting Spoken Tutorial for II and Soft Skills Development and Career Prospects and Planning for III and IV year students respectively to make competent to face the interviews.
• Student's Forum INFOQUEST gives a platform to students to excel in areas other than academics and prepare them for the fierce competition.
• Students are exposed to latest software technology based projects contributed to the society.
