Computer Technology Department

Department of Computer Technology was established in 1986. It offers a four year B.Tech. programme in Computer Technology with an annual intake of 90 students. Over the period of thirty seven years, the department has evolved as a center of excellence and known for its unique academic practices. National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi has accredited the department twice to acknowledge the standard the department has achieved. The department was at the forefront with RashtrasantTukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University to introduce new branch of Information Technology in 1999. Key strength of the department lies in its devoted staff members, up-to-date infrastructure and strong will to build good industry-institute interaction. The department is keen enough to provide additional learning resources such as NPTEL-SWYAM application an initiatives of IITs and IISc. Special emphasis on skill development has improved the employability of the students. Students of the department get placed in good industries like INFOSYS, TCS, WIPRO, CAPGEMINI, TECH MAHINDRA, NVDIA, INTEL and many more.

Teaching Staff:

  • Department is a team of qualified and experienced faculty members graduated from IITs, NITs and other reputed institutions with great zeal to impart best possible knowledge to the students. .

Infrastructure:

  • The department has state-of-the-art computer centers with modern hardware and software infrastructure. Hardware infrastructure includes around one hundred fifty desktop computers with latest configuration and high-end servers.
  • Access to internet through 200 Mbps dedicated leased line through wired and Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Various operating systems and licensed software such as WINDOWS, IBM AIX, ORACLE, IBM DB2, .NET, RATIONAL ROSE, JAVA, Microsoft Visual Studio with other necessary software are available for curriculum based practical and for project work.

Industry-Institute Interaction:

  • MOU’s with reputed software companies for developing good connect with industries.
  • Students are encouraged to take up industrial and research-oriented projects in various area of expertise in association with research organization and reputed industries.
  • IIT Bombay which coordinates the AAKASH project of MHRD, India to promote mobile technology has authorized the department as one of the nodal center.

Library and Digital Learning Resources:

  • Dedicated departmental library has around 683 titles from different orientations of Computer Technology and Information Technology.. .
  • Access to web based online programming tools developed by M/s Code Tantra, Hydrabad.

Funded Projects:

  • Department has received grant of Rs. Six lacks from AICTE, New Delhi for modernization of Computer Networks and Soft Computing laboratories.
  • IIT Bombay has given grant of Rs. One lack to the department to develop the necessary infrastructure required for AAKASH project.

Learning Beyond Curriculum:

  • To keep the students in pace with the rapidly developing technology, department follows the practice of conducting need-based courses/workshops on various emerging technologies such as JAVA, ANDRIOD, HADOOP, BIGDATA, LINUX , Salesforce etc.
  • Department has GATE club to provide extra guidance for preparation of GATE. GATE results have been promising since year 2011, twenty-two students have scored more than 85 percentile. Former members of GATE club Mr. Birendra Yadav had 184th All India rank with 99.91 percentile, Mr. Manas Thakur secured 708th All India rank with 99.61 percentile and Mr. Bupender secured 99.20 percentile.
  • Student’s chapter of Computer Society of India(CSI) gives a platform to students to showcase and enhance technical skills.
  • ACME, the student’s forum is coined to focus specifically on grooming up the soft skills of the budding engineers. This forum conducts many technical events such as paper presentation, technical quizzes, workshops and many other technical activities to serve the intended purpose of the forum.

Excellence in Competitive Examinations:

  • Students of the department are motivated to pursue higher studies. Many students appear for competitive exams such as GATE, GRE, TOFEL and have brought laurels to the department by securing admission in reputed institutes in India and abroad.
